A Global Zen Community
Bodhi Sangha is a worldwide network of Zen Buddhist practitioners, founded by the Indian Zen master AMA Samy. This global community has grown to encompass students of Samy's successors, including Carl Hooper (Bodhimount Zendo, Australia), Cyril Mathew (Bodhizendo India), Gert Lüderitz (Bodhisangha Europe), and Olaf Strelcyk (Loveland Zen, USA).
Members of Bodhi Sangha come from diverse backgrounds and countries, united by their shared practice of Zen Buddhism. They cultivate a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds who are interested in meditation and spiritual growth. The Sangha also deeply supports the work of Little Flower, a social project dedicated to serving marginalized communities in India.
The term "Sangha" traditionally refers to a community of Buddhist followers. Historically, it was associated with ordained monks and nuns. In contemporary Western contexts, "Sangha" has expanded to include lay practitioners who engage in Buddhist or Zen practices. The word "Bodhi" signifies awakening, referencing the Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. It embodies the realization of the void as the true nature of existence and the non-dualistic understanding of the world and oneself.
